Arrived late in LA yesterday, saw my first raccoon on a parking place while waiting in the drive line of an in-and-out drive in near the airport for my first cheese burger.
Flower market
Early waked up and direction to flower market. Super view once on the parking top floor. Skyline on front of us, open city on the other side, zombies below our field of view.
Back home, a coffee with the neighbor and we leave for Oxnard and a family Christmas lunch.
Oxnard
One hour late driving toward the North we arrive. Far away we can still spot some dark smokes from the recent fire still burning.
One house, many cars in the fronts because many visitors.
Entering by the garage, some people around a table talking, eating. Back door to access the kitchen, more poeple, on the stove three pans, in one of them posole soup, it's Mexican spirit here!
Saying hello to all the new and known faces, a chair is offered to me, I seat and a bowl of posole arrives. You add cabbage, radish, onions, oregano, chilly, cream and tomatillos. Delicious.
Time passes, but the appetite remains, I heard about a second course coming... It will be a giant piece of meat, red rib. Another member of the family is in charge of mash potatoes, they arrive bringing victoriously the vegetable. So good, once again you didn't need to be hungry for eating.
We are back in Boyle Heigh not so late but exhauster. 9:20pm and we fall asleep.

Mexico City day 1
Delicious tacos for breakfast, when you travel with Californians with Mexican blood int their veine you can only expect local delicacies wherever you are. So breakfast in the kitchen and in the small backyard, we are all getting ready slowly. Nice to be there.
The group leaves the house and we are hitting toward the Bosque de Chapultepec where several museums are located. We can't do all of them and it's the Tamayo musuem that won. Beautiful building in the middle of the park, all in the grey beton-ish color with a couple of interesting pieces in it. Then the rest of the day is all about exploring the city and eating churros, because churros is life.
We spot a few signs of the recent earthquake but we can also witness that a big effort has been done on removing quickly those signs.
Approaching 19h it's time for aperitif, in other word mezcal. Mezcal is life. Some of us went in La Clandestina yesterday evening and it's where are. Cool place.
Going home the group is splitting while crossing Parque México and half of us is continuing the exploration. Our last top is the cocktail baltra where the cocktails are really good. Cool day.

Mexico City Arrival

Premier Mutek
Below in broken English
Le freak show
yet in broken English
The pitch
Hard to believe but he made it, first to the Mutek and secondly with a full festival pass his pocket. Mixel feeling the first day wondering if I did a mistake in purchasing the full pass? But day after day I got used to it and made the best of it, so let's focus on the good impressions I had. A lot of electronic music, a few crappy performances, often repetitive (I know electronic music...) or surprising performances as the one from Grajam Dunning, sometimes mind-blowing and the super cool free dj sets at lunch time Place des Arts.
Culture clash
Lunch dj set, I'm eating my beloved sandwich while enjoying the set from Borchi jumping around his turntables, he is in place for good! Then my legendary kindness is making his effect by attracting loosers... indeed a person seated next to me is mubling how this is not music, he want the crowd around him to know about it. I try to tell him that all music tastes are it in the nature, and that the various festivals that take place here all along the summer season are wide in term of music choices... eventually he found out I'm French so I got the "it was better before and hurra for De Gaulle" and yes we are in 2017... I finish my lunch and let him ruminate this frustration, poor people.
Dicscoveries
The good side of the pass, if a show is boring I can always switch places. Thursday evening I left SAT for the Metropolis with a short visit on the outdoor location where the same Mexican artist Borchi is having a second set and is still full of communicative energy.
Entering the Metropolis, time seems to be suspended, nobody is moving or seems so, light from backstage toward the crowd, I'm getting closer, people seated on the floor listenning to the Canadian artist Sarah Davachi who is entertaining us with beautiful ambiant waves, very trippy, third encounter-ish atmosphere, delightful. It's bringing me joy for the rest of the festival. Her live is followed by a drone sound like performance, lovely interferences for your ears.
Amazing shows at Musée Monument National! Two days in a row with among others Murcof and Herman Kolgen who left me happy and astonished .
The freak show
I have seen a few monster as well, like super ugly people, not bad people, just ugly. Each musical event is dragging a nightlife fauna that always surprises me, they are part of the show. The more obscure is the musical genre the more obscure is the sens of fashion, people trying to be different by any means, the result isn't always charming (I have an online Phd degree in behavorial sociology, you are welcome).
